Bucanneer Update #Certificationbillyboyclyde
Brendan here with an update for certification which is a key milestone for us as a company. Let’s keep this update tight.
What are we certifying for?
CE and FCC. Some have overlapping tests but we are gunning for both of them to start off.
What has been happening?
Our certification units returned from the pre-scan last week and we spent last and this week making changes to it to help it pass the actual certification test. A pre-scan exists so you can tease out potential issues and give you some lee-way for improvements.
How long will certification take?
8-12 weeks if all is good and everything passes. I tried paying them extra but no dice. 8-12 weeks means 8-12 weeks for everyone.
Why didn’t you send in the units earlier for certification?
Because we can’t. You need to send in units ALMOST exactly like those you plan to sell and ship. Meaning they need to have almost all the improvements and tweaks. Taking feedback from the first batch we have improved some parts of the Buccy and thus were only able to send for certification now.
What are these tests?
We need to pass 6 directives for CE. A few major tests include EMC test which measures electromagnetic emissions.
Another test is the surge test, they will shock your product with 2000, 4000 and 8000 volts over a period of time at numerous points of the machine and to pass, your machine needs to not die.
Can I see these certification tests?
Sure you can and here they are:
Our pre scan results
4/6 Directives easily passed.
EMC failed (too much emissions from wifi dongles, motors and LED area) corrective measures now being taken.
Shock test passed at 2000 volts, failed at 4000 and 8000 volts at the areas of the ethernet port and top metallic mesh. The Buccaneer had a heart attack although all the parts were still working perfectly fine after a reboot. Grounding now being applied to these areas and small design changes are being implemented.
When are we sending it for official certification?
Check out our certification work schedule this one is for the non heated bed + new bed material, there is another with a heated bed (Yes, we have 2 models):
Hope that clears it up for you all, as always if you need anything please PM me and I will get back to you in a day or so. Next update we will go down into procurement and timelines for that.
Thanks for all of your great support and patience with us, we hope that you will appreciate our transparency and how hard we are pushing this project to fruition.
P.S, Check out the basic test print of a Buccy to certify it is working. Now I have a whole box of them!!
