PLA

Overview

PLA is easy to print, at low cost. Non-toxic and Eco friendly. A perfect starting point for people new to 3D printing.

PLA is created from all-natural renewable resources, and under the correct conditions, is fully biodegradable. This material is typically used for prototypes or decorative prints; Due to the low temperatures and ease of use, features tend to print sharper and more detailed. Its non-toxic nature means that it can be printed for food and medical applications if done so from a sterile and sanitized environment.
However, PLA prints are prone to snapping and breaking under pressure, and become damaged and discolored from high temperatures and prolonged exposure to sunlight or water.

Used for: Design prototypes, Plastic Cups, Medical Implants, Food containers.

    Spicy stuff…

When I first saw this filament added to the store I was a bit taken aback. It was a fascinating idea, but I couldn’t really think of what I’d use it for. But then I remembered that I’d said that about sooooo many other filaments, so I ordered one of the cute little 250g rolls to see what it was all about. One tip: if you’re using with a printer which has an auto-detect end stop you need to disable it when using this filament, or it’ll keep telling you the filament has run out. But aside from that my Zortrax M200 Plus has had no issues with it; piece of cake to dial in, no printing issues and the finished article polishes up beautifully. It looks gorgeous when printed, a fascinating effect, although it can look a little messy when you print large objects with it. Very good idea to have the 250g rolls in stock; then you can test it out to see all the nice little enhancements you can use it for. As you can see in the photo I used it for coloured highlights on a presentation box I’m making for my Alien Earrings; going for that 1950s flying saucer effect. I think the best way I can describe this filament, and the other dual-colour filaments, is that they’re like a spice you’d use when cooking; you use a little bit at a time and it turns a dish which may be ordinary into one people would crawl over a bed of nails to eat. This filament is just like that; use a little bit in your prints and turn dull, everyday things into tasty spicy ones!

    Such a fantastic filament

This is the second 2 tone filament I have tried from 3dfilaprint, like the first this prints amazing on my artillery genius and ender 3 printers. Print temp of 215°C and bed at 60°C on both printers tried with great results. I did find that when I printed using supports that the material was quite strong and tough to remove, more difficult than others I use anyway. Would definitely reccomend this filament to anyone wanting to add something special to their prints.

    Disappointing

Capable of producing attractive prints in small sizes, but consistently clogged my 0.4 mm nozzle on long jobs, requiring a complete strip of the hot end to fix it. Compared to Prima Chameleon, this is a disappointing filament.
