Crucial Guidelines to Remember:

First and foremost, keep in mind that patience and practice are essential for achieving success in 3D printing. You’re embarking on a learning curve, and one of the initial challenges you’ll face is achieving proper bed adhesion.

It’s imperative to carefully read and adhere to the instructions provided with your 3D printer. Additionally, utilize these instructions and other guides as valuable references for your personal growth in 3D printing.

Filament Temperature Insights:

For optimal results with 3DQF PLA, maintain a hot-end temperature between 210-225°C. We recommend beginning within this range for your initial prints. It’s worth noting that most imported filaments require lower temperatures due to fillers and additives. Therefore, it’s perfectly normal to require slightly more heat with the pure Natureworks material.

Please be aware that the maximum safe hot-end temperature for 3DQF PLA is 225°C, specifically when printing at speeds up to 120mm per second (‘mm/s’). Avoid exceeding this temperature limit if you’re printing at speeds below 120 mm/s.

High-speed printing has become popular, and with increased speed comes the necessity for higher temperatures to facilitate material flow. If you plan to use our filament in a high-speed printer, consult our “High-speed printing” guide for temperature recommendations.

Bed Temperature Recommendations:

We advise maintaining a heated bed temperature for 3DQF PLA of no higher than 50°C. This temperature range ensures proper adhesion while minimizing the risk of warping or deformation. Increasing the bed temperature beyond this limit will not enhance bed adhesion; in fact, cooling it down can be more beneficial. If you encounter difficulties with filament adhesion, consult our z-offset guide, which often addresses the issue. Never underestimate the importance of a flat and level bed accurately trammelled to the extruder’s gantry, as it simplifies setting the z-offset.

Seamless Filament Management:

In the design process, we recognized the importance of ensuring that our filament spools release the filament cleanly at the end of the roll. To achieve this, we loop the end of the roll outside the spool, allowing you to snip it free before it runs out. This approach enables the tail of the filament to release smoothly at the end of the roll, and it’s particularly advantageous if you have a run-out detector, as it can pause your print. In contrast, many imported filaments on plastic spools make accessing the tail of the filament difficult, leading to various issues when the end doesn’t release cleanly from the spool.

Filament Cleaning:

Effective filament cleaning is crucial, especially considering that filament can sit around for extended periods. Dust tends to accumulate on the filament’s surface, which, when introduced into the extruder, can lead to blockages over time. To counter this, we recommend using a filament cleaner to wipe the filament just before it enters the PTFE tube or extruder. This can be as simple as a small foam section acting as a wiper to maintain a clean filament feed.

PLA

Overview

PLA is easy to print, at low cost. Non-toxic and Eco friendly. A perfect starting point for people new to 3D printing.

PLA is created from all-natural renewable resources, and under the correct conditions, is fully biodegradable. This material is typically used for prototypes or decorative prints; Due to the low temperatures and ease of use, features tend to print sharper and more detailed. Its non-toxic nature means that it can be printed for food and medical applications if done so from a sterile and sanitized environment.
However, PLA prints are prone to snapping and breaking under pressure, and become damaged and discolored from high temperatures and prolonged exposure to sunlight or water.

Used for: Design prototypes, Plastic Cups, Medical Implants, Food containers.
