Description

CarbonX™ ASA+CF Carbon Fiber Reinforced ASA

CarbonX™ ASA+CF is a high-performance carbon fiber reinforced ASA [acrylonitrile styrene acrylate] filament ideal for anyone that desires a structural component with high modulus, excellent surface quality, dimensional stability, light weight, and ease of printing. Made using 15% High-Modulus Carbon Fiber (not carbon powder or milled carbon fiber). Made using our very popular ASA resin and premium carbon fiber

Recommended Print Settings:

  • Extruder: 235-255°C
  • Bed Temp: 90-110°C
  • Nozzle: Recommend a hardened steel nozzle with a minimum diameter of 0.4mm.
  • Other: Ideal layer height is 60% of nozzle diameter. We do not recommend printing layers smaller than 0.2mm with carbon fiber reinforced filaments.
  • Heated Chamber: Recommended, a chamber helps reduce warping.
  • Drying Instructions: 80°C for 4 hours.

Abrasive Material

This material is particularly abrasive among 3D printing filaments. Users may find standard brass nozzles are chewed through very quickly compared to standard wear and tear. When worn through, the nozzle diameter will widen inconsistently and the printer will experience extrusion issues.

Great Filament

This stuff prints amazing and I would recommend it and purchase it again.

ASA Carbon Fiber

Overall this product is great it’s a little more difficult to print with than I thought it was going to be but once you get it dialled in it’s freaking awesome

Awesome experience with CF+ASA

So far I’ve gone through about 3-4kg total of 3DXTech’s asa filaments. I’ve been able to run this with the exact same settings as the rest of their asa getting strong & great looking parts. Extremely happy with both the filament and the company as a whole.

Excellent experience….

I suggest you follow the drying instructions…. This filament is great.. I wish I could afford to print with this all the time… all 3dxtech filaments I have tried have been top notch!

Very Good filament

Prints great, much less warping than even CF ABS and can be easily acetone vapor smoothed with a semi sparkly dark grey look from the carbonfiber. Supports come right out; best material for prints with supports that I’ve tried. Very rigid and strong but noticeably more brittle than normal ASA/ABS

Excellent material

I’m surprised nobody seems to have reviewed this yet. This has quickly become one of my new favorite materials, especially where parts need to have significant heat resistance, stiffness and creep resistance. I print it on a 105 degree bed at 250-255 on the nozzle, with .25 layer height on an enclosed Ender 3 Pro with a Bondtech LGX FF print head. With no other calibration it produced extremely clean, beautiful prints on par with any CF nylon I’ve used. I gave it a bridge test and it genuinely shocked me that it produced a 100mm bridge with almost ZERO droop, and no hanging strands. Overall this stuff prints as easily as CF-nylon, but without needing to print out of a drybox or active dryer, and should theoretically resist creep failure and heat better than the CF-Nylon, simply by virtue of the base polymer. I intend to use this to print the bed mounts on a Voron 0.1 I’m building. If you need high stiffness, high heat tolerance and aren’t going to be subjecting your parts to acetone, CF-ASA is most definitely worth a try, and it only helps that it’s a little less expensive and finicky.

ASA+CF

I have found this very easy to print on my Prusa MK3s in a cardboard box with a correctly tuned printer. Started with some small parts for another printer build and have began to work up in size. no problems so far and the results are great in my opinion dimensionally accurate and pleasing to look at while being very strong. parts printed are for RatRig V-Core3, pillow blocks and rail installation jigs.

ABS

Overview

Strong and robust. Heat and chemical resilient. An Inexpensive choice for engineering-grade prints.

ABS has solid mechanical properties in the form of heat and impact resistance. Its high durability makes it perfect for printing moving and weight-bearing parts. ABS is shatter resistant; when pushed to its limit parts will bend or warp instead of snapping or shattering. ABS has decent chemical sustainability, making it resilient to sunlight, moisture, acids, and oils. Long exposure to sunlight may cause prints to degrade, making ASA a better choice for outdoor prints.

ABS is quite a common material making it relatively inexpensive whilst also being built to last in tough environments. The main detriment is that it can be quite difficult to print with, and can require printer tuning to get the perfect print.
Printed parts can be polished with acetone, giving them a smooth and glossy finish and hiding layer lines. When printing with this material, it is possible that toxic fumes are produced. This can be circumvented by printing In a well-ventilated area or using an extractor.

Used for: Injection molding, LEGO, electronic casings, automotive parts.
