Description

PolyLite™ LW-PLA is an innovative foamed PLA filament engineered to provide the same printability as traditional PLA while significantly reducing its weight by half.

PolyLite™ LW-PLA distinguishes itself as a non-active foaming filament, eliminating the need for foaming to occur during extrusion based on temperature. Instead, PolyLite™ LW-PLA comes pre-foamed, offering several advantages over active foaming techniques.

Active Foaming:

Pros:

It can achieve lighter prints than passive foaming at very high temperatures (around 250˚C).
Active foaming allows for some control over the level of foaming expansion.

Cons:

Significant modifications to printing settings are required to compensate for the foaming expansion of the material.
High printing temperatures can lead to defects such as stringing and blobs, affecting the overall print quality.
Stringing defects may be more pronounced in prints using active foaming.

Passive Foaming:

Pros:

No modifications to regular PLA settings are necessary, except for a slight increase in retraction, when using PolyLite™ LW-PLA.
Lightweight results can be achieved even when printing at low temperatures (around 190˚C).
Lower temperatures generally result in higher print quality.

Cons:

Passive foaming may not achieve the same level of weight reduction as active foaming at extremely high temperatures.
In summary, PolyLite™ LW-PLA’s passive foaming approach offers the convenience of maintaining regular PLA settings while still providing lightweight results, with the added benefit of potentially better print quality at lower printing temperatures.

PLA

Overview

PLA is easy to print, at low cost. Non-toxic and Eco friendly. A perfect starting point for people new to 3D printing.

PLA is created from all-natural renewable resources, and under the correct conditions, is fully biodegradable. This material is typically used for prototypes or decorative prints; Due to the low temperatures and ease of use, features tend to print sharper and more detailed. Its non-toxic nature means that it can be printed for food and medical applications if done so from a sterile and sanitized environment.
However, PLA prints are prone to snapping and breaking under pressure, and become damaged and discolored from high temperatures and prolonged exposure to sunlight or water.

Used for: Design prototypes, Plastic Cups, Medical Implants, Food containers.
