Surface Quality at High Speed:

High-speed printing often results in varying nozzle speeds, leading to temperature fluctuations and diverse surface finishes. High Speed filament mitigates these issues, providing consistent surface quality across a wide range of flow rates. This ensures a smoother finish compared to regular filament, which may exhibit imperfections like holes, artifacts, and uneven layer thicknesses.
Mechanical Properties at High Speed:

High Speed filament demonstrates superior overall mechanical properties when printed at higher speeds. The filament’s consistent extrusion and optimized cooling/melting rate contribute to enhanced strength and quality in the printed object.
Higher Throughput:

The combination of consistent surface quality and improved mechanical properties allows for the production of high-quality parts at a significantly faster pace. This increased throughput is particularly beneficial for businesses relying on 3D printing for manufacturing purposes.
What Defines a High Speed Filament?

A material earns the designation of “High Speed” if it meets three criteria at a specific printing temperature:
Flowability: It can consistently extrude at 24mm³/s on popular extrusion systems.
Formability: Maintains similar surface quality, overhang, and bridging at 24mm³/s as when printed at lower speeds.
Functionality: Retains at least 80% of its overall mechanical properties at 24mm³/s compared to lower speeds, including layer adhesion, tensile strength, and impact strength.
PolySonic™ PLA at 230˚C:

Maximum Flow: 30mm³/s (tested on a customized extrusion platform)
Confirmed Quality: Similar to Polymaker Scientist when printed at 4mm³/s and 24mm³/s.
Mechanical Properties: Maintains at least 87% layer adhesion, 95% tensile strength, and 82% impact strength at speeds ranging from 4mm³/s to 24mm³/s.

Printing Temperature:

Classic: 190˚C – 230˚C
High Speed: 210˚C – 230˚C
Printing Speed:

Classic: 50mm/s – 100mm/s
High Speed: 100mm/s – 300mm/s
Bed Temperature:

25˚C – 60˚C

Retraction Settings – Direct Drive:

Retraction Distance: 1mm
Retraction Speed: 20mm/s
Retraction Settings – Indirect Drive:

Retraction Distance: 3mm
Retraction Speed: 40mm/s
Drying Settings:

Temperature: 55˚C
Duration: 6 hours

PLA is created from all-natural renewable resources, and under the correct conditions, is fully biodegradable. This material is typically used for prototypes or decorative prints; Due to the low temperatures and ease of use, features tend to print sharper and more detailed. Its non-toxic nature means that it can be printed for food and medical applications if done so from a sterile and sanitized environment. 
However, PLA prints are prone to snapping and breaking under pressure, and become damaged and discolored from high temperatures and prolonged exposure to sunlight or water.
