Strength and flexibility

Polypropylene (PP) is one of the most commonly used polymers in industry. Its high flexibility, incredible durability, low weight and resistance to chemicals has meant that it has found countless applications from medicine, through the automotive industry to the packaging industry. Fiberlogy PP filament has tapped the potential of this incredible material and made it possible to use in 3D printing.

The impressive tensile strength makes polypropylene perfect for producing elements that require durability while maintaining flexibility such as lockable containers, handles, etc. It is successfully used in both advanced engineering projects and at home.

Polypropylene is recyclable, which is why printouts and printer scrap can be segregated with other waste items and recycled, which perfectly reflects the spirit of the idea of zero-waste.

Properties:

  • non-toxic and odorless
  • high resistance to chemicals
  • resistance to mechanical damage
  • very good adhesion between the print layers
  • suitable for contact with food

Polypropylene

Overview

Polypropylene is a semi-flexible water-resistant lightweight material. PP is relatively lightweight and has good chemical resistant properties.

PP can be printed in a sterile FDA approved environment for food safe applications. Depending on additives in the filament, Polypropylene can also have heat resistant properties, and can be used in the microwave and dishwasher without issue. While printing it has excellent layer bonding, giving prints a good solid finish and making layer lines unnoticeable. Polypropylene commonly warps while printing if a temperature change occurs, making it quite challenging to work with. PP has trouble adhering to most 3D printer surfaces and may need some additional support such as using a raft or tape depending on printer and filament used.

Used for: Food-Based Applications, Watch Straps, Containers.
